The creation
of the Pont de Grenelle is directly related to the birth of the Beaugrenelle
district.
The
1st bridge made out of wood is opened with the public in 1827. It is at
the time the only bridge between that of Iéna and that of the Point
du Jour. It is replaced in 1874 by a cast iron work, then the bridge of
Grenelle is rebuilt between 1966 and 1968. It crosses the island to the
swans, at the place of the Statue of the Freedom of Bartholdi. The metal
bridge articulates on two spans of 85 meters each one and a span of 20 meters
on the island with the swans. Its overall length is 220 meters and its width
of 30 meters.
