Built between
1685 and 1689, it is financed by Louis XIV who gives him his name.
With
the Pont Neuf and the Pont Marie, the Pont Royal appears among the oldest
bridges of Paris. Set fire to in 1654, it is again rebuilt out of wood,
but it is carried by the floods, at the time of believed of 1684. Louis
XIV decides then, with his expenses of his rebuilding. Builds between 1685
and 1689, around five arches in semicircular arch, its design is the work
of Jules Hardouin-Mansart (small nephew of the famous architect). The two
roadways of the apron open in skew on the two roadways of the quays.
